Our History
ONERUN founder Theresa Carriere began her journey in 2010.
2007
Cancer Strikes the Carriere Home
In April 2007, Theresa Carriere went for her annual routine physical. Although she was only 43 years old with no history of breast cancer in her family, she insisted on a mammogram. Within a few weeks after, she received a call from her doctor to start treatment resulting in a double mastectomy.
2010
The Journey Starts
Theresa ran 100km from London to Sarnia in one day. She and the ONERUN team raised an incredible $180,000 for breast cancer research during their first year.
2011
The Second 100km Run
Theresa ran another 100km in one day on June 10, 2011. Running this time from Sarnia to London raising a new record of $200,000 for breast cancer research.
2014
Third Time's a Charm
Theresa completes her third 100km run. This time to support cancer care programs that assist cancer patients and their families. Theresa was joined at every km by someone within the community who would #RunForTheirSomeone and show their support by giving tribute to their loved ones.
2015
From Challenge to Triumph
Theresa runs for the fourth time. ONERUN's momentum has grown as hundreds of supporters join from across the province. Theresa continues to visit schools, motivating students to reach their potential and inspiring them to be leaders within their communities. Her message of "From Challenge to Triumph" inspires thousands.
2017
ONERUN Week Launched
The first-ever ONERUN week is launched in London, Ontario. Together with the ONERUN team, John Paul II and Justin Tiseo, ONERUN takes on a whole new look. High Schools across London host their own ONERUN event to raise funds for cancer programs. Westminster, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. André Bessette and Clarke Road joined John Paul II to raise over $100,000 for Wellspring. The event involved over 3,000 staff and students, in teams of 10, completing 100kms of their own.
2018
The 1 Million Mark
ONERUN Week grows to ten schools in Southwestern Ontario. Ten high schools help ONERUN in joining forces to battle against cancer. Together they brought ONERUN's total to one million dollars donated. The events raised funds for cancer care programs at Wellspring London and area hospitals.
2019
A Full Community Effort
This year, ONERUN raised an organization record-setting $208,792. With money going to cancer patient care programs offered through Wellspring London, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care. The 2019 campaign included both school ONERUN events in May, as well as the return of Theresa Carriere’s fifth 100km run.
2020
100km Virtual Journey
In the organization's 10th year, ONERUN raised an incredible $150,811. With all events canceled due to COVID-19, ONERUN adjusted by moving the campaign online. Over 1200 participants completed 100km of their own over a month time frame while fundraising for the cause. The event concluded with a single-day 100km run on June 19th.
2021
Our Second 100km Virtual Journey
Almost 1400 participants joined this year’s 100km Virtual Journey. Our ONERUN high school staff and students brought in nearly 500 participants and raised an incredible $69,924 bringing this year's total to $200,801. To end off the 2021 campaign, our 10 Runners of Hope ran 10km each to complete another 100km in one day.
